Celebration

Last night, we went to Wheelock Place's Sun with Moon for a mini celebration. This is one of our favourite restaurants. I like the ambience a lot! If only the food is cheaper, I think we would frequent it much more often! :)

YQ ordered a 牛肉釜饭。I've always enjoyed looking at the hour glass.

I picked something from the seasonal menu. This time, the restaurant is serving seafood from Hokkaido. I ordered this ramen from the Hokkaido menu. It's a bit salty.

We also ordered 秋刀鱼. Ever since we ate some very nice 秋刀鱼 in Laos and Bangkok, we have fallen in love with this dish!

And of course, no meal is complete without dessert. I picked this shio ice-cream from the Hokkaido menu. It's actually salty and sweet ice-cream. It tasted a bit weird at first but once I've gotten used to the taste, it's quite unique actually. :)

Cutie

We saw this at Raffles Hotel on Sunday. Cute right? :)

If I am a tourist, I might buy the plush toy if it's for sale! Haha, but I am quite sure I will regret my decision when I reach home. It's cute but certainly quite useless! :p

Very entertaining!

I Live in a Slum

I cancelled my facial appointment so that I could come home early to do some cleaning up. The whole house is SOOOOOO cluttered! I feel that we are living in a slum. It's amazing how 2 people can accumulate so much rubbish at so many corners of the small house! I think laziness has a BIG part to play too.

My mission for the afternoon is to clear the pile of things on my study table - at least those that lies within my territory. It's really getting out of hand, just like my cubicle in the office. Haha! See for yourself!

After an hour, there is some improvement, though it's still not good enough.

Many parts of the house are in a mess too! I better spend some time cleaning up during the school hols! Chinese New Year is coming!

Yeah! I also managed to change the bedsheets! I quite like to do this. Maybe I should be a chambermaid? Ha Ha! I'm thinking of buying new pillows and bolster for the new year. How often should one change pillows and bolster actually???

Shopping Spree Again!

After spending 2 hours waiting in vain for "common" marking, I decided to go home. Luckily I spent the last half an hour clearing some of the rubbish on my table (still got a lot to clear!). That was the most constructive thing that I have done at work today. By the way, most of my department people went to Nan Hua Pri to watch the debate but I was too "off" to do so. Ha, sure kena blacklisted again but I really don't want to force myself to go... ...

At the bus stop, I thought to myself: if Bus 61 comes first, I will go to VivoCity but if Bus 75 comes first, I would go home. Shortly after, Bus 75 came and I boarded the bus. But on the bus, I kept thinking of the pre-packed Tom Yum Soup!In the end, I alighted and took Bus 65 to Vivocity! Haha! And my shopping spree began... ...

First stop: Bakerzin

I have been eyeing on Canele's macarons (what is macaron? see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaron). Since Bakerzin sells them too, I shall buy some to try! So I bought 6 for $8.15 (after GST). Very expensive!

Second stop: Candy Empire

On my way to Giant, I passed by Candy Empire and the cookies caught my eye. I bought the smaller box for $3.80.

Third stop: Giant

Yes, Giant is the reason why I MUST go to VivoCity. First, I placed a bag of 5 China Fuji apples (拜观音“用”的)in the basket.

Next is of course, my favourite Tom Yum Soup!

I feel so fulfilled putting them one by one in the basket! I think I will give 2 packets to my mum since she likes it too.

Then, on my way to the MRT station, I saw Beardpapa and ended up buy these:

Fourth stop: Beardpapa

Cheese Cake Sticks (buy 6 get 1 free!) - so "auntie"!

Strawberry flavoured! (Not as nice as the original vanilla one)

Wah! How can 2 people finish so many desserts? And didn't I mention about dieting? Ho ho ho! I must run longer distance today! (but I run before I eat so not much help right?)

I've learnt my lesson: NEVER go shopping for food when you are hungry and in a foul mood!

I am going jogging NOW! :)

More sinful meals

I haven't been buying at NTUC and cooking much for the past 1 week. I tried to recall what I have eaten but before I could finish doing so, I have already concluded that my food intake has far exceeded the desirable level.

So yesterday, I decided to cook lunch. But I was too lazy to go to NTUC. After searching the kitchen cabinet, I found some stuff that I could cook for lunch. Hee hee, after half an hour, here's what we had for lunch:

Spaghetti with mushrooms and tuna

Then, I was too lazy to cook dinner. After jogging, we decided to feast at Lao Beijing. There goes my effort to lose weight. As usual, we over-ordered again.

Pork rolls (can't remember full name)

While we were eating, the music suddenly changed from soothing to loud blasting. YQ said:"这是变脸的音乐!" Guess what?

True enough, there's really a 变脸 performance in 老北京食堂! So interesting!

However, we MUST cut down on such extravagant meals starting from TODAY! This is VERY BAD for health and our bank account!

“特务”J

The past one week was rather relaxed, though I still felt tired.

I met some interesting teachers while doing recording of marks. There was this very “flamboyant” teacher, J, aged 32, in my group. She was very eager to share with us her life story and experiences and by the end of the 2nd day, we knew quite a lot about her. I am surprised how someone could so easily and readily open up to strangers. I don’t think I can ever do that.

J led an interesting life. According to her, she was from the construction industry. She has tried many jobs before and what impressed me most was her experience in the retail industry. Born with flawless skin, she worked as a salesgirl in some departmental store, selling skin care and cosmetics. She also volunteered at some orchid shop where she worked for free and the boss only paid for her transport and meals. She is very eloquent and I think she would have excelled if she stayed on in retail or sales line. J shared with us her traveling experiences. She has been to Europe where she stayed for a long time. She did some part-time work there which helped to finance her expenses. She has also traveled from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, where she took train to Guangzhou and then proceeded to Tibet and Chengdu. She also went to Yunnan and was telling us how much she loved Lijiang. She also went to Everest Base Camp quite some time ago. This December, she would be going to Hong Kong with her mum and once she reached Singapore, she would be taking another flight to Paris and England with her boyfriend (an ang moh from New Castle, England but has stayed in Singapore for 10 years). Oh yes, she told us about her experiences with Speed Dating, organized by SDU.

J is an ardent fan of Anna Sui. She showed us her collection of Anna Sui cosmetics. While waiting for work to be done, she killed time by powdering her face and drawing her eye using liquid eyeliner. Her skills are impressive! Everyday, she would come to the marking centre in a beautiful dress and perfect face. She told us she has been to Hua Hin for those detox trips. She has tried “flushing” out the toxics in her colon before and claimed that the “slimming” sessions in Hua Hin really worked wonders.

I would have found it hard to believe that such a person actually exists in Singapore if I had not met her personally!

The other 2 ladies in my group were also quite well-dressed and well-groomed. I think I need to face the wall and think about how much negative externalities I have generated. Haha!

Gifts from Hong Kong

When we met up at Ah Teng's Bakery on Monday, MS gave us some gifts from Hong Kong. I found these 2 particularly interesting:

Left: Glico Pretz - Shark's fin flavoured (taste a bit like chicken-in-a-biscuit)
Right: Glico Collon - mango pudding flavoured

The last day of the long weekend

I haven't been sleeping well, despite having a long weekend and a lower level of stress. I think there is a great amount of truth in “早睡早起身体好”. After sleeping at weird hours for the past few days, my body is beginning to signal to me that it needs some routine.

I spent last night adjusting the layout of this blog and reading "Conquering Your Quarterlife Crisis". Not to forget, considerable time was spent managing my facebook.

We will be meeting MS and Ban for tea later. I am looking forward to it!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It was raining cats and dogs at 2 pm. We braved the rain and made our way to Bras Basah area. We had a late lunch at 津津.

As usual, we ordered our favourite chicken rice and Hainanese pork chop.

By the time we finished eating, it was slightly past 3 pm. As MS and Ban were still on their way, we walked to 长河书局 to browse at some books. The entire bookstore was filled with the smell of books, specifically Chinese books printed in China. It reminded me of the good old days at NUS when I took several modules of Chinese Studies. The image of the CL library flashed across my mind. I remembered how I would travel to Bras Basah area to look for books on Chinese history and other stuff. It's been such a long time... ... Yes, I was once a Chinese Studies student. A part of me was linked to 中文系. It felt strange to realize that I have long lost that sense of belonging and attachment. What had happened to me?

Ban arrived at 3 plus and we proceeded to Ah Teng's Bakery where I indulged happily in a sinful cake set!

MS and Ban also placed their order.

MS ordered a William's - cake with pear fillings

Ban's chocolate and banana cake

My chocolate and cheese cake

We spent the lazy afternoon talking about 《色戒》, homosexuality, foreign talent, Hong Kong etc. MS left at 7 pm to meet SL and the 3 of us proceeded to the Hainanese coffee shop for dinner. Seems like a repeat telecast of what we had for lunch.

Conclusion: I spent the final hours of the long weekend EATING, EATING and EATING! There goes my diet plans!
