As I age, Chinese New Year has lost its appeal to me. In fact, it's one of those dreaded festivals for me. Meeting up with relatives has always been a stressful tradition. I am really glad that the first 2 days are over!
My company is closed for 3 days so I am glad to be at home today, despite the fact that one day has been deducted from my miserable number of days of annual leave. I felt quite happy to see the blue sky and white clouds when I opened my eyes today. It reminded me of my HDB tai-tai days a year ago.
I wanted to maximize my time and put it to optimum use but as usual, I wasn't that successful. After mopping the floor, I finally brought my suitcase down to Raffles City for repair. After that, I spent another hour at NTUC, buying stuff for Friday's steamboat dinner. Grocery shopping is quite therapeutic! Then I had to go home and wait for my brother to come and 拜年. After that, we went to Great World City's Crystal Jade for lunch. I just finished cooking soup for dinner. Life as a homemaker is so exciting!
Maybe I should go and zzzzz before going for a run. Maybe I should read a few chapters of the book before I zzzzzz. Maybe I should practise my driving skills via MarioKart......So many things to do, so little time. How?

On Air"

Turning Back
I had planned to run 7 km this evening. However, into the 2nd km, it started to drizzle. I couldn't decide if I should turn back or continue. My legs brought me a further 0.5 km before I finally gave in - not to the weather, but my laziness. As I slowly crossed the virtual finishing line, I regretted my decision.
Which is easier? To give up or to persist? I guess there is no definite answer.
This evening, I chose to give up, as dictated by my plain laziness. I've got to make up for my mistake later this week.

New Year's resolutions can be bad for you
Oops, maybe I should have read this earlier. Hahaha!
New Year's resolutions can be bad for you: mental health charity
AFP - Thursday, January 1
LONDON (AFP) - - Making self-improvement New Year's resolutions often leaves people feeling worse, the British mental health charity Mind has warned.
Mind urged people not to make resolutions focusing on physical imperfections -- such as attempting to lose weight -- because they create a negative self image and lead to feelings of low self-esteem, hopelessness and even mild depression.
And when such optimistic resolutions fail, that could spark feelings of inadequacy and failure, the charity warned.
"New Year's resolutions can sometimes focus on our problems or insecurities such as being overweight, feeling unhappy in our jobs or feeling guilty about not devoting enough time to friends and family throughout the year," said Mind chief executive Paul Farmer.
"We chastise ourselves for our perceived shortcomings and set unrealistic goals to change our behaviour, so it's not surprising that when we fail to keep resolutions, we end up feeling worse than when we started.
"In 2009, instead of making a New Year's resolution, think positively about the year to come and what you can achieve."
Mind suggested resolution-makers focus instead on being active, connecting with nature, learning something new and working for one's community.

New Year Resolutions
My new year resolutions are seldom realized. Nevertheless, I have decided to set some simple targets for myself this year. :)
1. Run at least twice a week, covering a distance of at least 50 km in 4 weeks
2. Spend at least 3 Saturdays/Sundays at home per month
3. Cook at least 1 meal per week
4. Read at least 1 book per month
5. Curb my spending (errr...... I have yet to work out a target......)
The resolutions look achievable, right? Let's see how I fare at the end of 2009! :)
Well, as I was highlighting the public holidays in my new organizer, I started to think about our holiday destinations for the year! I am already planning for holiday even before the first work day of the year begins! Hahahaha! But if the economy gets worse, we may have to forgo our holiday plans......*finger-crossed*
Post-festive blues have set in...... Luckily tomorrow is Friday. If not the blues will be much more unbearable!
